"One of the pupils named Dargelos enjoyed great prestige because of a virility far above his age. He exposed himself with cynicism and trade a performance gave even for students from another class in exchange for rare stamps or tobacco. The places around his desk were places of favour. I remember his brown skin. At the sight of his very short pants and his socks drooping on his ankles, one guessed he was proud of his legs. We were all wearing short pants, but because of man's legs, only Dargelos had bare legs."*
